I don't watch to kill time, or to have something on in the background, or because it's there.
I want to pay attention - to actually think or become emotionally invested while I'm watching.
Bravo and E! will never appear on my screen. I get why people are entertained by mind-numbing pseudo-reality programming, but it's just not for me. The same goes for any "reality" dating series - I wish them all phony happiness.
I love sports. A good game will always get my attention.
But I'm on the hunt for quality scripted TV programming. And it's slim pickings these days, particular on the big networks.
So I'm reaching out to you. I'm open for suggestions. In this "golden age" of television, there's way too much fool's gold.
Here's what's currently on my radar:
- Mr. Robot (USA)
- Halt and Catch Fire (AMC)
- Last Week Tonight (HBO)
- Narcos (Netflix)
- Narcos (Netflix)
That's all I've got. I'm desperate. Let me know what I'm missing!
Please tweet me @jonhein and help me build up my queue.
Thank you.
Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime. Great premise, Axis wins WWII and Japan and the Nazis rule the US. First season has been out for m months.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first couple and liked it. It slowed down a bit though. I'm about halfway through.
DeleteForgot to put my name, @csciria on Twitter.
DeleteLoved Fast Food Maniac, great Book Jon
Glad you liked the book!
DeleteHave u tried eastbound and down, episodes with Matt le blanc orpeaky blinders
ReplyDeleteI liked EB&D a lot.
DeleteHaven't started Peaky Blinders, but I have heard good things about it.
Peaky Blinders, Stranger Things, The Man in the High Castle are all great shows. Mr. Robot and Narcos for sure as well. Also when is the 3rd season of Fargo coming back?
ReplyDeleteI've seen all of those except for Peaky Blinders which I will check out.
DeleteFargo should be back next Spring. Carrie Coon from The Leftovers has the lead. She is great.
The Booth at the End. It's on Hulu. It has very short seasons, but it's really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI am watching StartUp. It's on Crackle. I think you would like it.
ReplyDeletePower (Starz) is good, into the 3rd season, so enough to do s full on binge.
ReplyDeleteSuits-USA
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not but "the get down" on Netflix is really good if you like old hip hop and can tolerate some minor timeline inconsistencies and disco. And somehow Jayden smith isn't even bad in it...Overall it's at least something different and interesting if even just aesthetically. Especially for that "old New York" feel they nail it.
ReplyDeleteBoth seasons of powers (not power singular on starz but that's good too but plural it is a PlayStation plus delusive but that's no reason to be turned off) it's on blu-Ray and I'm sure for digital purchase at other places. And of course stranger things. And if you haven't seen it all four seasons of Vikings are really worth the investment. There's so much other stuff. You should rather just make a list of stuff you HAVE watched instead lol. Then we can all post what's not on it ha. And keep up the good job on the wrap-up show, you and ma-ma monkey are aces. #NinePiecesOfVinyl
Black Sails on Starz... Quarry on Cinemax just started on Friday... first episode was amazing. Vice Principals is just as good, if not better than EB&D. I also enjoy Turn on AMC. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your feedback. This helps so much!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever watch 'Luther', 'Sherlock', 'Rectify'?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely "Quarry" on Cinemax. Much of the Banshee producers, director etc.
ReplyDeleteQuarry. 2 episodes out now.

ReplyDeleteThe best thing I've seen this year is Happy Valley, a BBC import on Netflix. It's spectacular:
