What's Worth Watching Notes - November 3, 2011

What's Worth Watching show #13 will replay Sunday at 7am Eastern on Howard 101.  At least that's what they tell us.

- Honored by his intro and returned to WWW after appearing on our first show
- Feels the entertaining Brian Williams can pull of Rock Center
- Recused himself from whether The Office jumped the shark
- Watched Heat Vision & Jack in the Freaks and Geeks writers room
- The Office shared the same Wire high as Community casting Amy Ryan and Idris Elba
- Just finished writing Melissa McCarthy's next movie
Dan Harmon (
- Acknowledged ratings are through the floor but just charges ahead with Community
- Heat Vision and Jack came from pure joy and rejection still hurts
- Cried when FOX didn't pick up Heat Vision & Jack and showed VHS to neighbor
- Community held up to Freaks & Geeks which was held up to Malcolm in the Middle which was chosen over Heat Vision & Jack by FOX
- Had a patient complicated casting process which Danny Pudi destroyed
- Negotiates Alison Brie's hair with Matthew Weiner on Mad Men
- Noted Chevy Chase is a consummate soloist who will go to his grave alone
- Choking up on the bat on Chevy's character and making him more goofy
- Cast Joel McHale first along with Chevy Chase when casting Community
- Casting was a bingo card where the sheer force of whiteness broke through
- Knows doing two high concept episodes in a row causes the show to float
- NBC gives much more creative freedom than Comedy Central did
- Comedy Central had to approve every joke on Sarah Silverman show
- Getting notes from suits that Jeff is too angry is part of storytelling for money
- Knew Season 2 required no viewing of any other episode and no serialization
- Watched all 5 seasons of The Wire to help with modularity of Community
- Confirmed casting Michael K Williams via Twitter after a Wire high
- Ghost Adventures is his favorite current comedy
- Lists Cheers, Taxi and Knight Rider as his all time favorite shows
- Glad Ken Jeong is a doctor since Chevy Chase is hanging around

Ronnie Mund (
- Now watching Once Upon A Time and Rules of Engagement (a sitcom)
- Called in from the field but wouldn't reveal where he was
- Defended his love for Grey's Anatomy and Jen on Rules of Engagement

JD Harmeyer (
- Noticed use of old footage when Beavis & Butt-head watched videos
- Recommended American Horror Story because he heard it was good

Steve Brandano (
- One door closes another one opens with Zooey Deschannel's divorce
- Is officially "in" on James Spader on The Office
- Suggested Paintball in Baltimore for the Community finale

Jenny Hutt (
- Didn't Britta the Dan Harmon interview with her Ken Jeong doctor question
- Impressed Alison Brie can be on Community and Mad Men at the same time
- Remains on an island with her disdain of Breaking Bad
Jon Hein (
- Admires Kurt Sutter's take on DirecTV and wants him on the show to talk SoA
- Will not discuss the Kardashians on What's Worth Watching
- Predicts Mark Consuelos will end up in the Regis seat
- Stated his love for Yo Gabba Gabba and the theme from House
